The mission of Makueni Sisters Corporation is to empower the Women of Makueni Villages to develop sustainable community-based solutions to overcome the challenges of poverty and HIV/AIDS. Makueni Sisters, a US-based non-profit organization, supports local activities in Makueni Village, Eastern Province, Kenya, through close partnerships with the Makueni-based Women’s Group and other local and international change agents.

We believe that in order for our programs to be effective and sustainable, they must involve the full and active participation of the Makueni community at every level of planning, implementation and evaluation. We exist because of the efforts of local people towards making a difference in their community, and all of our activities are designed to support and honor those efforts.
The main program areas of the organization are:
• Orphan Support – Education and development of children who have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS
• Clean Water – Ensuring access to clean water
• Income Generation – Empowering women through financial independence
• Community Health – Supporting local solutions to community health issues such as home-based care, community health workers, food growing and nutrition education, and peer education.
